Will Japan's PM visit Iran by mid June?

Japan’s government spokesman said on Thursday that Tokio is arranging a state visit of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Tehran, although the technical details are not clear yet.

The Japanese media have said the visit would take place next week, but the ministry rushed to dismiss any concrete statements regarding the date and details of the upcoming visit.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga also declined to answer if Abe will be meeting the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“We will make efforts to make it meaningful,” Suga told a regular news conference about the trip, which would make Abe the first sitting Japanese prime minister to visit Iran in more than four decades.
