Will May’s government continue to implement Brexit policy?
The British government is set to publish on Thursday its long-awaited plan for future trade and relations with the European Union after Brexit.
The White Paper will flesh out the bones of Theresa May’s proposals agreed with her Cabinet at the recent Chequers meeting – but which prompted the resignations of two senior ministers.
But many in the prime minister’s ruling Conservative Party believe it betrays what they argue was the promise of a clean break with the EU.
Eurosceptics are also suspicious of potential immigration arrangements that may give preference to EU citizens, and the future influence of the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
