Will EU agree to reopen Brexit talks?

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made an attempt to reopen Brexit talks by writing to Donald Tusk  on August 19, seeking the removal of the Irish backstop.

In the letter Johnson repeated his calls for the device — an insurance policy to avoid the return of a hard border in Ireland and also he proposes a commitment to have alternative border arrangements by the end of a post-Brexit transition period.

EU leaders have repeatedly highlighted that they are unwilling to revisit the withdrawal agreement.
